Amtech 2012 Installation Guidance
General installation instructions
You need your Amtech 2012 DVD and 2012 licence number.
Your 2012 licence number can be found on the Delivery Note included with the software.
To install:
- Ensure that you are a full administrator
- Close all open applications, including virus checkers, if running, before starting the installation.
- Insert the Amtech 2012 DVD in your disk drive.
- Setup should start automatically.
Setup will run from the DVD. Follow on-screen instructions.
FastTest and GasCert Users
We recommend creating a backup of any existing database before installing the 2012 upgrade.
A backup can be performed as follows:
Local database
- Select ‘File’, ‘Backup’ menu option from within FastTest
Server database
- Click the Start button on the server, then select All Programs
- Choose ‘Amtech’
- Choose ‘Tools’
- Select ‘Backup/Restore Utility‘
Users of FastTest Mobile or GasCert Mobile should ensure all certificates are transferred from their mobile software before upgrading the desktop software.
System Hardware Requirements

The following operating systems are supported:
- Microsoft Windows XP SP3 - Home or Pro (32 bit)
- Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 (32 and 64 bit)
- Microsoft Windows 7 SP1 Home Premium (32 and 64 bit)
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (FastTest network installation)
It is essential that all Microsoft Windows Updates are applied BEFORE attempting your Amtech 2012 installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
There are no files on the disk
The Amtech 2012 installation disk is a DVD. You will not be able to read the disk if your PC only has a CD drive.
Try reading the disk in a PC which does have a DVD drive.
If this works, then copy the contents of the DVD to a USB storage device. Then launch ‘Setup.exe’ from the USB storage device to initiate the installation.
Disabling User Access Control (UAC)
Windows Vista and Windows 7 users should ensure that UAC is set to ‘Never Notify’ before attempting to install Amtech 2012.

Configuring Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service startup
If the Amtech FastTest 2012 installation does not complete then you might need to alter a setting in your Internet Connection Sharing service.
This is done as follows;
1) Close all applications including current installation processes
2) Click on Start menu and type services.msc as per image below and click press Enter

3) Scroll down the list of Services to Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)
If set to Manual, as per image, please carry on to step 4.
If it set to anything else, please contact Amtech Support

4) Right Click on Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) and select Properties.
5) Change Startup type to Disabled, as per image below, and click OK

6) Run the Amtech 2012 DVD installation again and it should complete ok.
7) Once installed correctly, you can go back into the Service and change back to Manual.
